Kettering Ladies Win Bronze At National Open Championships

Members of the Shotokan Kettering & Corby Ladies Karate club in Burton Latimer attended the 15th Legend Shotokan Karate Open Championships in Bracknell last weekend, along with other members of the organisation from around the area.

Kellie Huntingdon who trains at the Ladies club at the Brittania Social Club on a Tuesday night, attended the Championship with other local club students. The Championship is held annually and attended by large numbers of practitioners of Shotokan Karate, which is the most popular style and most widely practiced of the Karate styles.
Kellie won her way through by competing in a series of heats to reach the final four and secured a Bronze position in the Ladies Single Kata competition.
Kellie along with Tina Lewis and Rebecca Law competed as a team in the Ladies Team Kata competition and came fourth.

Nick Binder, instructor of SKC Kettering & Corby, said:- ''We were really pleased with our team and individual performance, with so many competitors taking part it was a real achievement to get fourth and third placings at the championships. Our ladies club has members between the ages of 14 and 64, so we hope to do well in future events. But it is not just about grading to get the next belt, many of our students just want to train to increase their fitness levels and to learn some practical self-defence techniques.'' The club has received assistance from the lottery funded London 2012 legacy project 'Sportivate' . Ladies wanting to find out more about the club should contact Nick Binder on 07720430798 or come along to the Brittania club on Tuesday nights at 7pm.

Well done to everyone in our karate squad who attended the Karate Sport England National Open on the 21st April. This was, for most of the children, their first major competition. We had some great performances including a silver for our girls kata team
